The enzyme Retinol Saturase is an oxidoreductase that is strongly expressed in metabolically active tissues such as liver and adipose tissue. In addition to converting retinol to dihydroretinol, this enzyme appears to catalyze additional reactions. This very first review article on Retinol Saturase summarizes the current state of knowledge regarding the expression, regulation, and function of this enzyme and derives potential pharmacological-therapeutic applications.
